CEPA Webinar: Muscling Up on Mental Illness
Presented by: Dr. Simon Rosenbaum
There are increasing opportunities for exercise physiologists within the mental health sector given the dual role of exercise in improving symptoms and reducing overall cardiometabolic risk. Sedentary behavior and low levels of physical activity contribute to premature mortality and poor physical health outcomes within this population. The Muscling up on Mental Illness webinar aims to highlight the need, increasing opportunities and expanding evidence base regarding the role of clinical exercise interventions in as an integrated component of the standard mental health treatment team. The latest evidence regarding exercise assessments, intervention delivery and program design will be presented, as will the considerations, potential contraindications to exercise prescription and strategies on maximizing adherence.
